The day strarted off with some much needed work done as we have been packing so much "cultural exploration" into most days, every now and then you need to set aside time to just get some piled up work completed. For me, this means time spent at the library because my computer decided it was thirsty and had a beer spilled on it, subsequently frying it, or something. Hopefully it is salvagable because I already heed enough flack for my supposed curse with technology. Maybe it's a sign or maybe I'm unlucky. Or maybe it's a sign that I need to be a wee bit more careful. Whatever it is, it is almost revitalizing to be stripped of your comfortable connection with technology.
On our way to the Koala Sanctuary to hold some Koalas and box some Kangaroos, I left my phone on the public bus system. Not until some 30 minutes later did I realize my phone was on a ride that I would prefer it not to be on. For a couple days I was without a phone or computer which nowadays, as we are constantly streaming, uploading, chatting, emailing and generally more connected than ever, seems like I pretty much lost everything...in a dramatized sense. The initial freak out set in which required some cooling down, but afterwards I began to really enjoy the separation from the connection I have grown ever more dependent upon, as we all have. Sort of revitalizing to not have the ability to listen to music on public transportation and instead talk to complete, sometimes crazy, strangers; to get totally lost in a city and depend on nothing more than friendly advice to meander your way home; and most refreshingly cut the tie between me and everything - and everyone - on Facebook. Not anti social, just introspective. Turns out a nice-chubby-hadtabegay-Lenny Kravitz looking Australian dude found my phone, gave another phone a ring and I ventured into the far south suburb of Brisbane to meet him. I will forever be in your debt, Ronnie, but sorry I couldn't stick around to come in and "hang out" the taxi fare was running. Maybe next time, buddy.

Just awkward. |
Anywho, after I lost my phone we continued on our way to the Koala sanctuary to share a nice plate of Eucalyptus with some furry buddies. Essentially a small, interactive zoo, the Koala Sanctuary was both strange and exciting - for a kid. Lucky for us we are easily transformed and took off into the overgrown, overrun labyrinth of pathways to the Koala holding area. 16 bucks to hold a Koala and get your picture taken with him? Sold. Turns out, Koalas are really awkward and not very friendly. I'm not so sure they even know that they are animals at all. Nonetheless, got a picture taken and a memory made. On to fight some Roos.
The Kangaroos - and Emus, a child hood nemesis of mine - were in a closed off field where we pretty much had free reign to chase them, wrestle them, get in their pouches, feed them, or whatever else one could imagine doing in a field of 30 or so Kangaroos. I started off right with messith an Emu because, having grown up with an Emu living in a field adjacent to our backyard, I think they are evil and love fighting them. After an attempted ride on my behalf and an attempted taking of manhood on the Emu's behalf, I moved on to the Kangaroos.

Ya, I laid in poop. Big deal. |
I had always imagined Kangaroos running wildly packs, but here all they did was lazily wait on stupid humans to feed them. Fine by me. You were able to pretty much hug these little guys. All of the scronny ones, that is. The "alpha males" were kind of butt holes and really jacked, so we steered clear and just messed with their pack-mates. Or whatever. Fed some here, laid with some there, kissed a few, tried to get into a couple pouches - which turn out to be tres petite and extremely slimy - and ended up laying in some freshly laid Roo Doo. Play with fire and you're gonna get burned, I suppose. Pictures and videos paint this one better than words.
End the day with some dingy Indian food places and a few beers. Pretty good day, if I don't say so myself. Certainly doesn't top tiger kingdom, but Kangaroos are still awesome.
